RoadMap

Thank you for visiting Brightwide now that we have officially opened our doors to the public!

In the coming weeks and months you will find that the site will continue to evolve.  There’ll be more films, more features, more campaigning opportunities and more benefits for you.

Over the course of the coming weeks, we will be introducing a raft of new and exciting features to help you enjoy the great films on offer: learn more about the issues behind them, join the discussion and to discover how you can act to truly make a difference.

In March 2010 we will introduce our Act Now popup, which will appear after each film view, presenting you with ways to become part of the story beyond the end credits, all developed with the expert involvment of our NGO partners, Oxfam, WWF and Amnesty International.

Look out for a sparkling new home page very soon, and new special offers to give you great deals on film views.  Which brings us to an important question. Now that we have gone public, Brightwide needs our community to pay for film views - why is this?

Well, put simply, because we think the films on Brightwide are worth paying for. They are made by film-makers and crews driven by a passion for film and the issues they cover. They are labours of love, not destined or intended for box office millions, produced at high cost and sometimes high personal risk.

Brightwide represents independent cinema. A large proportion of our takings go to small, socially-minded distributors or directly to the film-makers. In other words, it’s money going back into the heart of filmmaking.

The Brightwide Beta: what is a “Beta”?

"Beta" is what you call a website that is still an early prototype.  Beta versions of websites will often still have technical problems or missing pages. Despite this, people are invited to visit Beta websites so that they can provide feedback. These people are also called “Beta testers”. Once all errors and problems are resolved, a website is then launched publicly.

Why do Beta testing?

Feedback from Beta Testers helps organisations resolve issues and shape the website to suit the needs of the people who will actually use it.  By having Beta testing, Brightwide is ensuring that the website will be the best it can possibly be.
